Mastertape

Started on Shiloh Dr. in South Austin back in 2000. They practiced in the garage to the roommates' dismay. They invited Laura Purdy to join as keyboaardist, thinking it was the missing key. Robert and Jason got kicked out by Laura after two practices and she quickly dismantled the band after that...a dark cloud covered the city. Tired of the rain and darkness for 3 years, Robert and Jason decided it was time to save the city and themselves in 2004 and reformed Mastertape in San Marcos,TX. They drank a lot of beer and recorded live tracks that would become their first ep and released as part of the 333's series put out by ChorizoApproved and Bombay Cove. The cd-r quickly soldout and they hadn't even played a show. In Early 2005, Jason and Robert invited Kyle Smith and Bonnie Wolfe to the MTHQ to record the infamous "Sodadiertape" cassette on Bombay Cove Records featuring SodaDiet member, Robert Davis. The sessions went well and Kyle & Bonnie became permanent members. Their first live show, with the return of Jay Hammers (who sang as well as played keyboard on some songs featured on the 333's), was opening for Siva and Meridian in April '05. They hosted a Mastertape Campout at the MTHQ in August '05 featuring The Happy Families, Soda Diet, Collected Stories, and Steward Gigantic. It proved to be a wonderful and fun-filled evening. Mastertape added full-time drummer, Ernald Aguilar. Mastertape was now complete. They began playing local shows in Austin and San Marcos with local and touring acts like The Unbearables, Muppletone, Cerberus Shoal, Dead Waiter, WORK, The Dirty Novels, Phantom Buffalo, Earthtone Players and Seekonk, to name a few. In the Winter of 2006, Jason and Robert hit the road as a two-piece, touring with Gil San Marcos and Boone Graham up the East Coast playing shows in Dallas, Nashville, Richmond, and Providence (w/ Wax and Wane, Red Delicious, and Engine Knock), with travels into Boston and Portland, ME. In early 2007, they played SXSW as part of the Misc. Music / Chorizo Approved Showcase.
